The science behind this: the older (and wiser) we get, the less water our body holds, thus, the less it can dilute the alcohol we drink. There are additional factors at play here, but the bottom line is that we’re more easily affected by alcohol. If at your 20s you needed two beers to feel that buzz, today you might only need one.
There’s a fine line between good and excessive, though, and that line is over two drinks a day. Going over that will increase the risk for heart disease, anxiety and everyone’s favorite – alcoholism.
And now for the good news: research suggests that moderate consumption of wine (1 glass a day) can actually decrease risk for heart disease.
Cheers!
