Beets. I don’t know why, but they always scared the living hell out of me. I think it all began with my grandma, who was scared to death of the stains they might leave on her tablecloth. That anxiety was passed on to my mom, and from her – straight to me.
But at 47, with everything else that’s been changing for me, I thought maybe I should give them a go. Why? Because they have tons of iron. Why else? Because honey, it’s my fifth decade and it’s about damn time I stopped being afraid of beets.
Then, I continued with parsley. Just the way it is, fresh. It has iron too, and it’s really good for your digestion and urinary tract. From there, things deteriorated quickly and I found goat yogurt. Mainly because milk has become heavy on my digestion, so why not help it a little?
After those came fennel: a vegetable like no vegetable ever before it. And finally, the ultimate dessert for grownups who know what’s good for them: dark chocolate. Why? Because I can.
